Top Five Causes for Disruption of Internet Service
1) Congestion
Simply put, many service providers oversubscribe bandwidth (sell more than they have). When choosing a provider, make sure you ask if your connection is dedicated or shared.
2) Failed Link to Provider
A cable was cut, a pole was knocked down or water got into something it shouldn’t have. There are many reasons why this can happen and most are unavoidable. What’s your backup plan?
3) Service Provider Internet Speed Fluctuates
You may or may not be getting the speed you were promised. Have you checked recently?
4) Equipment Failure
Power surges are the most common cause for router and switch failure. Make sure everything has surge protection.
5) Operator Error
Sometimes the problem is at your location. The right service provider will have the ability to test if the circuit is working up to your modem, router or other equipment. This will rule out all other issues.
There is no question that at some point, you will lose Internet connectivity. What matters is how quickly your current ISP resolves the issue.
What is one thing that you would like to see your Internet Service Provider do differently?
